Project Introduction
In 2022, sungreen undertook a custom large chandelier project at the five-star Al Mouj Rayhaan by Rotana Hotel in Oman. This design consists of five uniquely shaped large lampshades. The enormous size provides remarkable visual impact. The silk lampshades have the ability to transform into a semi-transparent state when the light is on, emitting a softer light, which enhances the overall uniqueness and appeal of the design.
Fabric Selection
According to the order’s requirements, this chandelier needs to have a semi-transparent feel when the light is on. Compared to other materials, silk’s light-transmissive properties are excellent, even when the thickness is increased. The interplay between the light and silk creates a captivating atmosphere, adding a bit of magic to the surrounding environment and providing hotel guests and visitors with a sense of tranquility and fascination.
Large-Sized Frame
The enormous size (dimensions are L3600*W1565mm, L2300*W2500mm, L4610*W2640mm, L3980*W1730mm, W2250*L2580mm respectively) requires larger diameter metal tubes for welding to ensure their stability. Unlike smaller lampshades, a frame welded from larger diameter metal tubes will make the frame’s skeletal appearance more prominent and hence reduce the overall aesthetic. This was one of the problem points considered at the beginning of the order. We tackled this by creating a proportionally reduced mini model, providing the most suitable solution between the skeleton diameter and fabric thickness.
